A MusicHelps Story:
MIX CONNECTING, CREATING, LIVING INC.– Hutt Valley
MIX Connecting, Creating, Living Inc is a not for profit organisation that supports those who live with the experience of mental illness, through a variety of creative and life skill opportunities.
MIX is open to anyone over 18 years old who experiences mental illness. Some have experienced institutional care in the past and still struggle to find acceptance in the community. People come from a range of backgrounds, but tend to be those who face economic hardship, stigma, and discrimination.
MusicHelps has been supporting their music therapy programme since 2018. An extension of the programme is the music group "The MixFits" a group who performs at in the Hutt Valley.
A MusicHelps Story:
Dame Lynda and Jools, the Topp Twins
" MusicHelps was a lifeline when we needed it most. It is hard to ask for help but sometimes you have to.
After a double cancer diagnosis on the back of two years of gigs being cancelled from Covid, the coffers were bare. It was Christmas and Lynda had just had an urgent double mastectomy. The MusicHelps Benevolent Fund responded immediately with compassion and understanding.
The grant helped enormously to alleviate the financial stress so we could both focus on our health. Confidentiality, kindness and a simple grant-making process made a huge difference. "
A MusicHelps Story:
Bella “Bella Donna” Cook
" Last year I was left with nothing after my house burnt down. One of my friends recommended me reaching out to MusicHelps, but I didn't expect their support to be so life changing.
MusicHelps financially supported me to replace all the music gear I had lost in the fire. In an industry that can feel so isolating at times I felt so supported and cared for. I was able to get back up on my feet and making music in no time. I can't express how meaningful the backing from MusicHelps has meant to me. "
