MusicHelps is a New Zealand charity that uses the power of music to help and heal people in need across Aotearoa. They fund and support projects where music makes a real difference in people’s lives, from music therapy sessions in hospitals and special needs schools, to programmes that help people experiencing hardship find confidence and connection through music.
Alongside this work in the community, MusicHelps also looks after our own industry. The charity provides confidential counselling and emergency financial support for New Zealand music workers who might be going through tough times, whether that’s mental health challenges, illness or unexpected hardship. It’s about making sure the people who create and support music in Aotearoa are supported too.

Supporting the People Behind the Music
In the past year MusicHelps have assisted 8 music workers experiencing exceptional difficult circumstances.
As the programme is 100% confidential, we can’t advise who, but we can advise that in the past year, MusicHelps have given close to $40,000 to music workers in need.
These grants have included assisting with surgery costs, home nursing costs, funeral and household expenses.

" Music and music therapy have a powerful ability to uplift, connect, and empower people with intellectual disabilities, but access to these opportunities is often limited by cost.
Receiving the MusicHelps Grant has been deeply meaningful for us and the people we support. By combining this funding with another grant, we were able to provide a full year of weekly group music therapy sessions—something that would not have been possible otherwise. The joy and confidence that has emerged through these sessions has been inspiring. Watching participants grow, express themselves, and form genuine connections, both with one another and with their music therapist, Carlos, has been fantastic . The grant has not only supported therapeutic outcomes, but has helped create a safe, joyful space. "
